In 2000, HURD Builders, LLC opened for business with a humble business philosophy; to provide honest, personalized residential custom home services to home buyers.
We are Melody and Russell Hurd, co-owners of HURD Builders, LLC, a custom new home building company. Melody owns HURD Builders Specialty Projects, LLC a home improvement firm. Mel and Russ each bring complementing backgrounds that include working with merchant and custom builders, as well as land development firms. Each of us worked for more than 14 years in construction management prior to establishing HURD Builders, LLC. It was during that time that we observed a niche for a “boutique builder” in homebuilding that was going unfulfilled. Thus, we were inspired to step out on our own to fill that niche.
We believe that true custom home building doesn’t necessarily have to be more expensive than other building methods. Innovative and cost-efficient home design just takes more time, effort and communication than most other builders are willing or able to expend. It takes more commitment as well. That commitment is what we believe separates us from our competition.
About Russ –
Russ Hurd has a management background in the building industry that includes: land development for large national builders, home building for national builders, starting and managing home building companies for owner/investors, and directing multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects in Maryland and Massachusetts.
Russ built one of the first award winning houses for the Home Builders Association of Maryland’s “Dream Homes” program in the early 1990’s.
Russ also served on the Land Development Council for Howard County for the same association. Russ’ dual background in home building and land development provides him with a higher understanding of home siting and lot finishing than most builders who only have experience in home building.
About Melody –
Melody’s professional history includes positions as Vice President of Purchasing, Operations Manager, and Accounting Supervision for regional and national companies. As a proprietor of HURD Builders, Mel has refined the process of outfitting homes with her clients. She has created a manageable step by step approach to the selections process, which many people find intimidating. Many of our clients have remarked that Mel has actually made the daunting task of selecting their home’s finishes fun.
Mel also brings a unique service and value to Hurd Builders customers. She provides a woman’s perspective to the project based in her diversified background of building experiences. Few builders (even nationally) can boast having a woman homebuilding veteran in an ownership and management position with the years of experience and knowledge that Melody brings to our client relationships.
Natasha Rodgers –
Joined HURD Builders, LLC in 2018 as our Operations Manager.
Natasha has a positive attitude and she works directly with our clients and designers as well as our subcontractor associates, to assist our clients throughout the selection and building process. Natasha helps us to provide full time attention to our customers’ needs. She is also managing HURD Builders marketing, website, social media, and is a licensed real estate agent. Her license is with Tyler Duncan Realty Partners Inc.
