We are beyond happy with our new HURD built home. The entire team is knowledgeable and easy to work with. Mel is charming and helped us with the initial decisions. She gave us excellent advice and helped us stay within budget. We always hesitated on building a home because of the story’s we heard on how stressful it is, and the thing’s go wrong. When we finally decided to build our next home we immediately knew Russ, Mel, and Natasha were the ones that we wanted to build it. Our hesitations never became a reality because of them.

The process was easy, fun and exciting. They truly care about the quality product they put forward, and forge relationships with their clients. We cannot say enough great things about Hurd Builders and the sub contractors they use.

When the home was delivered it was actually bittersweet. We were happy to finally have our dream home, but were somewhat sad we would not be seeing Russ, Mel and Natasha any more. We are happy to call them friends and they had our trust every step of the way!

We worked with Hurd Builders to build our custom home, and then we had them back to finish our basement. We cannot say enough good things. Two of the biggest issues I hear from friends and neighbors who built their own homes are outrageous cost overages and repeated problems. Hurd’s pricing is realistic. Baring unavoidable, unexpected expenses, you will be able to complete your project within a reasonable margin. We made selections for our house without compromising on design or quality. We ended up having a small overage that we thought was quite predictable and reasonable.

As for problems, there will always be a couple surprises. And surprises are far different than the nightmares you hear of that result from the poor planning and communication other builders are known for. One of the great things about Hurd Builders is that they mitigate the stress the customer experiences by handling most issues. If that can’t be done, expect a patient, clear explanation. They’ll follow that explanation by collaborating with you to resolve the issue. Their integrity was never more obvious than when we had a handful of conversations about unavoidable problems.

As if that all isn’t enough, when they found out our previous home was selling, they tightened the schedule of the remaining work. They worked very quickly the last few weeks to get us into our home in time. We were incredibly grateful for them taking care of our family in this deeply personal way.

“We would like to share our building experience and act as a recommendation for your company.  Let us break the experience down into the steps taken:

• Pre-commitment experience. We started working with three builders.  The other two were quickly eliminated after visiting our lot with Russ.  He listened to our wants and recommended we flip the home end for end that got us our desired full daylight basement (very important to us) and enhanced our view of the valley.  The other builders were only going to get one corner of the basement out of the ground and the garage was going to block most of the view.
• Home design. We had a floor plan of the home we thought we wanted.  However, after consulting with Mel and Russ we agreed with many of their suggestions and we made quite a few positive changes to our initial design – including: relocation of the basement steps, making the kitchen/dining area larger and flipping the deck and screened porch to take better advantage of the view.
• Home construction. Russ quoted six months start to finish.  Russ had the home completed in the time frame quoted and in fact had it completed two months before we even wanted to move in.  Our frequent visits and questions/comments during the construction were encouraged by Russ and resulted in a few running changes.
• Final cost. We’ve always heard that contractors quote low and make it up on the change orders.  We are pleased to say Mel took the time up front to work with us and determining what we wanted and quoted accordingly.  The home came in on budget, no end of construction surprises!
• Home warranty. After one year in the home we received a call from Mel telling us it was time to do a walk thru to fix anything that needed fixing.  Our response was, we didn’t need to do the exercise.  We didn’t have so much as a nail pop that needed fixing!

Would we use your company again, absolutely!  You made the home building experience enjoyable and rewarding.  We would love to do it again!”

“Building a home was NEVER on my bucket list of things I had or even wanted to do. But you, Mel and Russ, actually made it a pleasant experience! You nudged a little when needed, but never harassed. You suggested, but never demanded. You stood by your work throughout and made sure we were satisfied and happy!

We are writing this letter to recommend Russ and Melody Hurd as builders. We have known them for just over two years and met them after having had an unpleasant experience with another builder. Following our negative experience, we interviewed several new prospects including the Hurds who were recommended to us because they had built the home next door to our new property, and the owners had a good experience, trusted the Hurds, and were happy with the building experience and their new home. Following a positive interview we also inspected other examples of their work and were impressed with the quality.

My wife, Kathy, was especially happy to have Melody Hurd’s professional experience, insight, suggestions, and camaraderie to help her navigate the intricate world of fixtures, tiles, floorings, lighting, etc., the myriad world of decisions that must be dealt with in planning a new home from scratch. We both felt the Hurds gave us trustworthy, friendly, and helpful advice during the building process. They also promised to do their best to see that we were happy with the resulting product, our new home, and they lived up to that promise.
